Additional information about Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs)

Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) are a mechanism that can help address a particular nuisance in a specified area, which is having a detrimental effect on the quality of life for those in the local community. PSPOs can prohibit certain things or require specific things to be done.

Breaking the conditions set out in a PSPO is a criminal offence and can lead to a fixed penalty notice or prosecution. PSPOs are made by the local authority and generally remain in place for up to three years but can be reviewed, extended or allowed to lapse.
