Consultation has concluded
We are seeking feedback on proposed improvements on the Concorde Way cycling and walking route in Lockleaze, north Bristol.
The aim of the project is to make Concorde Way a safer and more pleasant cycling and walking route to encourage more people to use it.
It is important that north-south cycling and walking transport connections across Bristol are improved as this will help to reduce the use of private vehicles for short trips, helping to reduce carbon emissions.
Concorde Way
Concorde Way is a mostly off-road route, for cyclists and pedestrians that connects Stoke Gifford in north Bristol and the city centre near Cabot Circus.
A section of the route in Lockleaze is on-road at Dovercourt Road, Lockleaze Road and Constable Road. We are asking for people’s thoughts about this section of route so that we can develop a design concept for an improved on-road option and look at the possibilities for an off-road option for that section.
The sections of Concorde Way which are the focus of this early engagement are:
740m on Dovercourt Road from its closed southern end to its junction with Constable Road
170m on Constable Road from its junction with Dovercourt Road to where it joins the existing off-road route
Development in Lockleaze
Lockleaze is an area undergoing a lot of change. It is a growing neighbourhood, with more houses set to be built and improvements to Muller Road will start later this summer, including installing a bus lane.
To make sure our road network keeps pace with local growth, we are looking at all the ways we can help communities switch to sustainable travel options, such as public transport and walking and cycling. Therefore, we are now turning our attention to the Concorde Way cycling and walking route.
Other changes to the area include the development of the existing depot east of Dovercourt Road. This is now out of use and planning permission is currently pending consideration to build 140 homes on this site. This project will consider the changes and access points from this new development to Concorde Way and look at the opportunities to improve connections and signage.
