Consultation has concluded
Under the Gambling Act 2005 local authorities are responsible for issuing premises licences, permits and notices for gambling premises. Bristol City Council is required to maintain a policy and review it every three years.
The council deal with a range of licences for betting shops, casinos, adult gaming centres, on track betting, family entertainment centres, bingo, gaming machines in pubs and clubs, and small society lottery registrations.
Other requirements under the Gambling Act 2005 such as online betting, advertising and operator licences are dealt with by the Gambling Commission, and are therefore not covered in the council’s policy.
The next review of the policy must be completed by 31 January 2025, and a revised draft has been completed, which makes a number of small alterations to wording, and legislative changes. The draft policy can be viewed here and a summary of the changes can be found here. The policy aligns closely with the Guidance for Licensing Authorities issued by the Gambling Commission.
The purpose of this consultation is to seek views on the proposed changes to the gambling policy.
What happens next?
This consultation closes on Sunday 15 September 2024. After it has closed, we will carefully consider all the responses to help us make a decision.
The responses from this consultation will be included in a report to Full Council. A final decision on the proposed policy will be made by Full Council when they have considered the responses.
