This consultation has concluded. It was open for comments from 12 March to 21 April 2024.
Background
The YTL Arena Bristol is expected to open by 2026 and Bristol City Council, South Gloucestershire Council and National Highways (which manages and operates the adjacent M5 motorway) are working together to plan for the parking and traffic impact that this new development will have for local people.
We conducted a survey from 23 January to 6 March 2023 asking local people about their travel patterns, parking requirements, and what concerns they have in relation to the arena development and what they would like to see done.
Having reviewed the survey responses, Bristol City Council and South Gloucestershire Council are proposing a traffic management system to keep the transport network running smoothly, as well as additional parking restrictions and improved walking and cycling routes. Some of the proposals are in the Bristol City Council area; others are in South Gloucestershire.
As part of this transport management package for the YTL Arena, we are proposing improvements to walking and cycling along Charlton Road between Pen Park Road and West Way. This consultation describes the proposals for Charlton Road, including the section in South Gloucestershire between Charlton Mead Drive and West Way,and asks for your views and ideas.
This consultation has concluded. It was open for comments from 12 March to 21 April 2024
Consultation results
A total of 196 responses to the survey were completed. The key findings can be found in the survey report. The feedback will help us develop final proposals for Walking, Wheeling and Cycling Improvements on Charlton Road. We expect a decision on how to proceed to be taken during autumn 2024 / winter 2025.
