Overview
Bristol City Council wants to hear from sanctuary seekers (refugees, asylum seekers, and people with insecure immigration status) and people who work with sanctuary seekers to help us to develop the Bristol Sanctuary Strategy 2025 to 2030.
The Bristol Sanctuary Strategy 2025 to 2030 will be a document that sets out what is most important to sanctuary seekers in our city and explains what Bristol City Council will work to achieve over the next five years to support them.
In line with our proud and historic status as a City of Sanctuary, our vision is that Bristol is a city of safety, a welcoming place where people seeking sanctuary are provided with support, services and opportunity to rebuild their lives and thrive in our communities.
Our previous Bristol Refugee, Asylum Seeker and Inclusion Strategy 2019 to 2024 is on the Bristol City Council website:
We would value your ideas to help shape our strategy for the next five years.
Have your say
This short survey is open from 23 January 2025 and will close at midnight on 16 March 2025. It should take about five to ten minutes to complete.
In the survey, we ask for your views on priorities for the strategy and what you think are most important things Bristol City Council can do to help sanctuary seekers.
Please take part in our survey and submit by 16 March 2025 to make sure your views are considered.
Alternative formats
If you prefer, you can complete an online Easy Read version of the consultation.
Easy Read is a way of showing information that makes it easier to read. Text is in short sentences; images are chosen to represent each sentence, and language is simplified where possible. It is used to help people with a learning disability and can be useful for people who speak English as a second language, people who find it hard to read and write, and people who have memory problems.
If you need this consultation survey as a paper version, Braille, large print, British Sign Language, or in another language, or other alternative format, you can request this by emailing the Consultation and Engagement Team at consultation@bristol.gov.uk or by calling 0117 922 2848.
At the end of this survey, you can sign up to receive fortnightly email updates about council consultations and engagement.
What happens next?
All responses to this survey will be analysed. The feedback will be used to help develop the Bristol Sanctuary Strategy 2025 to 2030.
In March 2025, we will explore your ideas in more detail via focus groups with a range of sanctuary seekers, and with support from interpreters
When we have a draft strategy ready to share, we will ask you for your views in a public consultation. We expect this to be in late spring or summer 2025.
The Bristol Sanctuary Strategy and Action Plan 2025 to 2030 will go to Children and Young People’s Committee in Summer 2025 for their approval. In making their decision, Committee will consider the report of consultation responses.
You can find details of forthcoming committee meetings and their agendas at democracy.bristol.gov.uk.
Decisions made will be shared at democracy.bristol.gov.uk and on this page.
